Best you better clear your schedule to get re-addicted to the game

You better make sure you have the space on your phone because the addictively simple phone game is set for a big return.

Games come out every other day. With free to play games, live service games, or any AAA dud in store – you have so many options to choose from.

But back in 2014, the gaming landscape looked a little different. I mean 10 years is a long time in the gaming industry and it seems a behemoth that took the world by storm is set for a shocking return.

I’m talking obviously about flappy bird.

A game so terribly simple it is a wonder no one brought out a game like it before… except they likely did but it just never reached the same levels of popularity.

Back when it released, if you had a phone you likely downloaded the popular game to see how far you could get. Even going as far to share your high score on Facebook – yeah it is that old – back when people shared absolutely everything on the social media platform.

The concept of the game was simple but catchy: players were asked to control bird Faby, helping the feathered character pass through pairs of pipes with gaps placed at random heights.

Funnily enough, it used the pipe asset from classic Mario games, so it wasn’t like it had massive backing behind it.

In fact, it seemed to be the brain child of one man, Vietnamese developer, Dong Nguyen.

Shockingly, despite the game shooting to meteoric popularity, he decided to delete the arcade-style game.

At the time, the developer warned Flappy Bird fans on Twitter he would delete the game just nine months after it first went online.

“I am sorry Flappy Bird users, 22 hours from now, I will take Flappy Bird down. I cannot take this anymore,” Nguyen tweeted in February 2014.

But for all the fans that were dismayed, the game is reportedly making a return in 2025, however, it won’t be with Nguyen attached to it.

According to reports, the game is aiming for a launch by the end of October 2025 across multiple platforms including web browsers, and an iOS and Android.

The game is set to release by a group named ‘The Flappy Bird Foundation,’ which is described as ‘a new team of passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world.’

The group say they have acquired the official Flappy Bird trademark from Gametech Holdings LLC and have big plans for the release of the new game, including new game modes, characters, progression, and massive multiplayer challenges.
