Bette Midler Has Something To Say About Her Husband

We sometimes hear about people who rush into relationships and they end up regretting those spur-of-the-moment decisions. On occasion, however, we also hear about those who jump in quickly and end up doing well.

Bette Midler is somebody who acted quickly when she was dating her current husband. That relationship she has with Martin von Haselberg not only has stood the test of time for 39 years, it is still going strong.

When Bette Midler met her current husband, they were only dating for six weeks when they decided to elope. Like any married couple, they have had difficulties along the way but they have weathered through them and done well for the long run.

Their relationship started when they met in 1984. He was an artist and she was an actress working on the movie, Jinxed. If there is such a thing as love at first sight, they seem to have had it because six weeks later, they went to Las Vegas to elope.

According to Midler, there were two people at her wedding, her husband and her. She also said there was an Elvis impersonator who married them present at the wedding for the $45 ceremony.

If getting married at 2 AM in Vegas after only dating someone for six weeks is not a recipe for disaster, I don’t know what is. Surprisingly, however, they had their daughter Sophie within two years and they are still sticking strong with each other.

Midler does say that they used to fight bitterly but after they had Sophie, it really reshaped their lives and they came to the conclusion they wanted to raise the child and not hurt her in any way.

He said that he had to actively work on their marriage because they would have intense arguments. Regardless of that, they are almost reaching for decades of matrimony.

We often ask people who have been married for a long time what the secret to their long marriage is. For this couple, they do what they can to be patient with each other and give each other space.

The need for space and freedom is something that still exists today and they have been able to grow individually while also respecting each other’s needs and wants.

Patience is also something that Midler really emphasized as an important part of a happy marriage. She said you should look at the arguments that could happen and decide which one is worth having. She also says that sometimes it’s best to let the partner have their own way.

Finally, she said that you should be choosy when it comes to the words you use during confrontations. Belittling your partner or blaming them for something is not going to do any good.

Although she has enjoyed a long-lasting marriage, she isn’t one to give marriage advice, including to her daughter. Now that her daughter is married, she is doing her best not to interfere and to step back to allow Sophie to figure things out on her own.

We wish them many more years of life and togetherness.
