Shark Tank star tried to get Whoopi Goldberg to join the cast as an investor

Barbara Corcoran discussed her attempt to persuade Goldberg to appear on the show as a guest investor.

Barbara Corcoran, one of the business-savvy minds behind Shark Tank, once sharpened her teeth to eye up a potential new investor to join her in the water: The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

As Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Kevin O’Leary, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Corcoran appeared Tuesday on the daytime talk show to tease the upcoming season of their long-running reality series, View cohost Sara Haines asked Corcoran about her desire to have Goldberg appear on the show next to the investors.

“You have a lot of great guest sharks this season, but I heard you really pushed for someone we know to be a guest shark on the show,” Haines asked, to which Corcoran responded, “That would be Whoopi. No one would argue with me. She tells it like it is.”

Mark Cuban added that Goldberg would “be a great shark,” which made the EGOT-winning Ghost actress laugh as she weighed the offer. The studio audience, View cohosts, and Shark Tank personalities then banded together to chant Goldberg’s name amid a chorus of, “Do it! Do it! Do it!”

“Look, I love this show,” the 67-year-old said, before O’Leary joked that all Goldberg needed was $100 million of burnable income to play with. “There is the problem,” she noted. “If I could do it with ABC’s money… ?”

Corcoran later clarified why she wanted Goldberg to appear on the program, which sees the sharks — all real-life moguls — investing in (or rejecting the proposals of) entrepreneurs and their products.

“Every great shark we’ve had stems from the heart, they really want to help people, and that’s what you have,” Corcoran said. “Who wouldn’t want to have you as their partner?”

The invitation comes two years after Corcoran made headlines for making a body-shaming joke at Goldberg’s expense during a prior appearance on The View, which prompted her to apologize to her longtime friend in a subsequent social media post.

“I just came back from The View and saw my old friend Whoopi,” the businesswoman said. “She has a phenomenal sense of humor, and I’ve known Whoopi for years. I made a joke at Whoopi’s expense, which I now realize wasn’t funny. For anyone who I may have offended unintentionally, I just wanted to say I really am very sorry.”

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
