Jeff Bezos’ soon-to-be wife Lauren Sánchez has said her ex-boyfriend is one of her best friends as she reflected on family dynamics in her circle.
Bezos and Sánchez went public with their relationship back in 2019 and the Amazon founder popped the question onboard his superyacht while on a trip to Cannes Film Festival in May this year.
The former entertainment and news anchor recently spoke to Vogue about the importance of the relationships she maintains with her family, most notably Tony Gonzalez, the father of one of her eldest child.
Giving a look into her life with the multi-billionaire, Sánchez explained how they work as a couple regarding their previous relationships.
Sánchez, who has her helicopter pilot’s license, gave Vogue an aerial tour of the Bezos family compound. It consisted of a series of cornered ranch buildings around a two-story residence with wide floor-to ceiling windows built next to a swimming pool.
Sánchez explained that this is where everyone gathers for Thanksgiving, a 30-plus family and friends affair.
Last year Sánchez invited a rather surprising guest to the festivities – her former partner and retired NFL tight end Gonzalez.
While the pair co-parent their 22-year-old son Nikko you would be forgiven for not expecting the American football star to make an appearance.
Sánchez said that Gonzalez’s wife, October Gonzalez, was also invited and expected, as well as their kids.
Explaining the family dynamic, she admitted that Gonzalez is one of her best friends, as well as his wife.
“We know how to modern family,” Sánchez’s sister, Elena Blair, said of the arrangement.
Sánchez also went into how she balances seeing her kids – son Evan, 17, and daughter Ella, 15 – from her former marriage to Endeavor Executive Chairman Patrick Whitesell.
“Our lives are pretty normal,” she said. “Daily life mostly revolves around our kids.
Sánchez added that she and Bezos spend alternating weeks with Evan and Ella in Los Angeles, as both are in school there and live in Bezos’ Tudor mansion on Lake Washington.
These trips could start to take a little while longer in the near future as Bezos recently announced he, and his Amazon company, would be ditching Seattle on the west coast for Miami.
At the beginning of November, Bezos posted a video to his Instagram account of his much-younger self showing off the original Amazon headquarters that he ran out of his garage.
Captioning the clip, Bezos penned: “Seattle has been my home since 1994 when I started Amazon out of my garage. That’s my dad behind the camera in this video, touring Amazon’s first ‘office’.
“My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 – GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral. For all that, I’m planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”
