Users are recording their reactions to realising that a chart-topping hit they once believed was an innocent party banger, is actually about something slightly less family friendly.
Earlier this week, several social media followers have made the startling realisation that 50 Cent‘s 2005 hit ‘Candy Shop’ may not actually be about venturing into a chocolate and sweets store…
TikTok user Debi – who goes by the username @dibdabx – has made a name for herself on the social media app for reacting to the real meanings behind some cryptic songs.
And now, it’s Flo Rida’s turn to have his songs analysed, with 2012’s absolute banger ‘Whistle’ being up for assessment.
Before we delve into the apparent meaning of the song, however, I will ask, whenever has an actual whistle ever had its ground in partying?
Surely we could have seen this one coming, no?
Anyway, in the viral video – captioned “Listening to ‘Whistle’ by Flo Rida now I’m not a child,” – Debi’s jaw drops when she listens carefully to the first few lines of the chorus.
It says: “Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby, let me know. Girl I’m gonna show you how to do it, and we start real slow.
“You just put your lips together and you come real close. Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby. Here we go.”
The rapper previously joked upon the song’s release that it is ‘definitely for referees’.
“Well, put your own swing on it, but for the most part I keep it clean, but if you listen to it, you can take it another way as well,” he told MTV News.
But come on, guys, let’s be real. How could this have been about anything over than taking a trip ‘Down Under’.
“Orrrr he’s just talking about whistles,” one viewer suggested in the comments, to which Debi teased in reply: “There was a rumor he was talking about netball lol.”
Another commented: “Noooo!! I was 21 living in Ayia Napa when this came out! I genuinely thought it was about whistles.”
“The stuff that used to play on the radio was absolutely wild,” someone else wrote.
As mentioned, earlier this week, the social media star listened to 50 Cent’s ‘Candy Shop’, and was unable to hold back her shock after realising the song may also be about receiving… fellatio.
“Why have I never noticed this?!” Debi asked viewers.
“They’re both going for it,” she said, after listening to the female artist’s lines. “Childhood ruined.”
