World’s largest cruise ship that’s five times bigger than the Titanic is about to make its first voyage

If you’re counting down the days until the Icon of the Seas sets sail, you don’t have much longer to wait.

The Royal Caribbean ship has been hailed as the world’s largest and is officially five times bigger than The Titanic.

The huge vessel is 65 meters long – around 1,200 feet – and weighs in at 250,800 tonnes.

Boasting 20 decks, the ship has the largest water park at sea, as well as a section of the boat dedicated just for families.

If the waterpark isn’t your bag, then passengers will be able to relax by one of the cruise ship‘s seven pools.

Constructed in Finland, the Icon of the Seas has finally been built and officially joined Royal Caribbean’s fleet yesterday (November 27) ahead of its pending departure.

It’s said that the ginormous ship took two and a half years to create (including both design and construction), and will hold almost 10,000 people at a time.

All trips will begin in Miami, with its current scheduled journeys set to visit parts of Eastern and Western Caribbean – including Royal Caribbean’s exclusive destination of Perfect Day at Cococay.

The first of Icon of the Seas’ many journeys will take place in just a few weeks time on January 27, 2024.

Current advertised holidays on its websites are for seven day-long trips.

If you’re thinking of booking a trip on the vessel, prices range from $1,820 to an eye-watering $75,000 for a week.

$75,000 will get you seven nights on the ships ‘Ultimate Family Townhouse’, which has similarities to Wonders of the Seas’ large family room that even boasts its own slide.

Speaking to Insider last year, Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean’s chief product innovation officer, told the publication that the pricey rooms would be ‘big and bold’.

“Suites have been an evolution for us,” he added, noting that Royal Caribbean is ‘continually evolving’.

At the time that Icon of the Seas was announced, people had mixed reviews about the behemoth of a vessel – with some admitting that it filled them with ‘intense dread’.

One wrote on X: “Every time I see a picture of the Icon of the Seas cruise ship I am filled with an intense dread.”

“This is my personal hell on Earth,” added another.

But it’s so far been extremely popular with future holiday-goers, with more than half of its three-storey suits already being booked for next year as of February 2023.
