As the most unlikely Summer blockbuster, “The Sound of Freedom,” continues to confound and frustrate Hollywood by setting screens on fire and expanding into more and more theaters, people are taking notice, even if the leftist media continues to dismiss and criticize the film.
The film finished just behind the new Indiana Jones flick on the 4th of July and, into its second week, continues to perform well. The movie has thus far grossed over $40 million despite having a $12 million budget. The film has gotten sterling reviews from audiences, landing an A+ on CinemaScore. All of this despite the mainstream media taking potshots at leading man Jim Caviezel and calling the story a ‘conspiracy theory.’
As the film’s momentum and important message gain wider attention, more and more people of notoriety are throwing their support behind the movie. UFC head Dana White talked about the film during UFC 290 last weekend, offering to buy tickets for all of his employees. He said: “There’s a new movie out called ‘Sound of Freedom’ and it’s about human trafficking. More importantly, the trafficking of children. This is a disgusting, horrific issue that’s happening all around the world, and it’s not getting better. It’s getting worse. And what I’m going to do is I’m going to give any of my UFC employees that want to see this movie free tickets to go and see it. I would like to encourage other executives to do the same at their company,”
Dana White wields considerable clout, and having his support is important. Mel Gibson also spoke about it, but a new voice has declared its support for the film from a most unlikely person.
Pop star Jewel took to TikTok and Twitter to throw her support behind the movie and help underscore how important the message is. The “Foolish Games” singer said: “It saddens me that some media is trying to politicize this movie. This is not left or right. It’s about millions of kids being trafficked, and no matter what your faith or creed, we need to protect all the vulnerable kids rather than fight over philosophical differences.”
Jewel is saying what so many people on the right realize and what so many leftists fail to acknowledge; this isn’t a movie about politics, it is a true story about a real issue that is a plague on our planet, human trafficking, particularly children. This is an issue everyone should agree on, but sadly the left refuses to face.
Jewel continued: “Some friends of mine made this movie. And I’ve — it’s been years of it being in production. It’s the most inspiring film. Did you know that there are millions of children in slavery? This is the fastest-growing criminal enterprise, and the amount of children enslaved right now is greater than all 300 years of the transatlantic slave trade. What the actual eff? This is a true story about a man who just doesn’t give up on a child. Go see this and have your heart filled. Love you guys, take care of your babies!”
Jewel is the latest, but likely not the last high-profile star to take notice and endorse this important movie. It is subject matter that should supersede politics, and as more celebrities share their thought on the flick, the more the momentum will continue. It is a movie that needs to be seen and an example of how regular people can make their voices heard with their money. Kudos to Jewel for supporting the movie.
