With a countless number of competition-based reality shows airing on television, it can be difficult to outshine the other competitors and stand out in your own unique way in a large sea of talent. Since ‘American Idol’ has been on the air for such a long time, you may think that you’ve seen all it has to offer.

However, sometimes we get to witness contestants that touch our hearts with their unique stories in such a way that they’ll never be forgotten. This was the case for Dimitrius Graham, a 27-year-old contestant. As he headed to the stage for his most important performance to date, he had something else on his mind entirely.

But what was Dimitrius thinking about? His lovely mother, Lorraine, was about to undergo surgery the day after his performance. Because she was ill and therefore unable to attend the show and see her son perform, he wanted to make sure that she would still be able to watch him somehow.

Of course, the judges obliged his requests and decided to FaceTime his mother while he took the stage. Judge Katy Perry had some kind words for the mother, praying that angels would watch over her during her surgery.

While Dimitrius began singing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ by legendary singer Bette Midler, Katy began getting emotional as she held up the phone where Lorraine was watching her son’s amazing performance.

But that was when the pop star started sobbing. She couldn’t even open her eyes to look at what was happening on stage, and instead took the moment in by listening and allowing her emotions to take over in the form of tears. At the end of the performance, both Perry and Lorraine were left awestruck with Dimitrius’s talent and vocal ability.

But this isn’t the only moment that emotions have been high-strung on ‘American Idol.’ Another contestant named Colby Swift was performing when something incredible happened. Colby sings country music and is only a teenager trying his best to compete on the show. But one of the judges was about to surprise him with something he could have never expected!

Although singing in front of the ‘Idol’ judges was his first time performing in front of a large crowd, he had also never taken vocal lessons. However, once he got up to the stage, he blew everyone away with his sheer talent and ability to sing his heart out!

But one judge, country singer Luke Bryan, noticed something about his outfit during the performance. When Colby finished, Luke asked to see his shoes. To everyone’s surprise, Colby’s cowboy boots were all torn apart and worn out, even having holes straight through the soles! That’s when Luke, notorious for being a nice person, decided to gift him something.
