In an act of compassion and solidarity, Taylor Swift recently met with the family of Ana Clara Benevides – the fan who tragically passed away at one of her recent concerts in Rio de Janeiro.

As previously reported, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides suffered a suspected fatal cardiac event after attending Swift’s Rio de Janeiro show earlier this month. The tragedy came after temperatures in the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos stadium skyrocket during an unprecedented heatwave in the city.

Temperatures soared in the Latin American nation, with Brazilian media reporting that the capital city hit a record-high heat index of 59.3 degrees Celsius (139.5 degrees Fahrenheit), per Reuters.

Benevides reportedly fainted at the stadium after waiting hours for the concert to begin and was treated by paramedics at the venue. T4F (the concert organizers) later issued a statement on Instagram stating that the 23-year-old was then transferred to the Salgado Filho Hospital. “After nearly an hour of emergency assistance, she regrettably died,” their statement added.

Now, her family has had the opportunity to meet with Swift in person.

As reported by PEOPLE, the family met with Swift prior to her show in São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday. A photo of the moment shows the Benevides family all wearing T-shirts adorned with Ana Clara’s face.

According to reports from Brasil’s Folha de S.Paulo, the Benevides family was also invited to watch the concert from a VIP section.

The Washington Post also reports that Swift personally reached out to Benevides’ family after the incident and made a donation to her parents.

Following the initial news that Benevides had passed away, Swift took to social media to express her sorrow, writing: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.”

She continued: “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.” Two nights later, Swift also honored Benevides with a tearful rendition of ‘Bigger Than the Whole Sky’ at a following Rio de Janeiro show.

Weiny Machado, Benevides’ father, shared his heartbreak with Folha de S.Paulo, telling the newspaper: “I lost my only daughter, a happy and intelligent girl. She was about to graduate in Psychology next April.

“I want it to be found out whether they were in fact prohibited from bringing water, whether there was negligence in providing assistance,” he continued. “I know that the singer was handing out water to her fans, and that is absurd for an event of this size.”

The 23-year-old’s mother has also called out the concert organizers, Time for Fun (T4F), for not doing enough following the fan’s tragic death.

“The people at the show, who put it together, are not giving us support to bring her home,” the grieving mother said. “I know that these things don’t even go through the singers, the artists don’t even know about it.

“But we wanted them to give us the support, to bring her home. Because, unfortunately, we are paying for everything. And my daughter hasn’t arrived yet.”

In a video posted to X, the mom also thanked people for their support while they crowdfunded to help with the ongoing costs of putting her daughter to rest.

“Yesterday we started a crowdfunding asking for help. Thank God, we reached the goal this morning,” she said in the clip. “We got an amount that allows us to do everything we wanted. Thank God, a lot of people have donated and I wanted God to bless all of you.”

The November 17 concert in Rio was bashed by concertgoers for allegedly refusing to let ticketholders enter the venue with water.

Time for Fun, the organizer of Swift’s Brazil shows, is now under investigation by local police.

A spokesperson for the Civil Police Department of Rio de Janeiro revealed that event organizers would be summoned to provide testimony, and further investigative steps are underway, per NBC News.

The Civil Police Department of Rio de Janeiro’s consumer delegations department has also launched an inquiry, focusing on the potential “endangerment of the life and health” of concertgoers.
