Customer left with staggering bill after misreading menu at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant

A customer was left with an eye-watering bill after misreading the menu at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

Jeffrey Paige visited the 57-year-old chef’s steakhouse in Atlantic City with his girlfriend to celebrate the world opening up following the Covid-19 pandemic.

To mark the special occasion, he wanted to treat himself to American Wagyu beef but once he looked at the menu, Jeffrey noticed the Triple Seared Japanese A5 – which is known as Kobe and considered to be the best cut of beef available.

However, the man made a mistake as he assumed that it would cost him $35 for four ounces of Kobe – which to him was an irresistible offer compared to the $84 he was going to spend on eight ounces of Wagyu.

So Jeffrey went for it and ordered the Japanese steak, not realizing that it was way more expensive than he believed.

“I had never had real deal Kobe,” he said, per The Mirror. “It was like nothing else you’ll ever have. Melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides and appetizers, and my girlfriend had Chef Ramsay’s famous beef Wellington for the first time ever.

“All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn’t believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!”, he said, before adding: “Or so I thought.”

However, despite eating every bite of the delicious meal, Jeffrey was left shocked after learning that it was not the bargain he had thought once the bill had arrived.

So he and his girlfriend looked at the menu again and that’s when she discovered that it was $35 for an ounce of Kobe and not per four ounces – meaning the bill totaled more than $600!

Many Reddit users took to the comment section to share their reactions to the eyewatering price, with one user writing: “If this doesn’t put you in dire financial straits and you aren’t unemployed/starving/behind bills… F***IN WORTH IT.”

“One should experience extravagance at least once in every reasonable aspect of life. Because why the f*** not. I could be dead tomorrow and unlike you, I have no idea what it is like to demolish 12oz of A5. You do. Good for you, man. I hope you savored it. No regrets,” they added.

Another said: “That’s pretty common at super high-end places. You gotta be real careful.”

A third remarked: “Holy s***. I thought my $60 for the wife and I was a bit much. Guess I am more broke-a** than I realized if you considered it reasonable based on what you originally understood the price to be. Well, hope you enjoyed dinner. I woulda been s****ing a brick and asked them where the dirty dishes were so I could get started washing them.”

Despite the Triple Seared Japanese A5 milking his bank account dry, Jeffrey took full ownership of the mistake and told the publication that he regretted nothing.

“My family and I are huge Gordon Ramsay fans, we watch his shows – Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef – and I’ve been to his restaurants before and loved everything we’ve gotten,” he said.

“The steak and the experience were unforgettable, and if I had to make this blunder at any restaurant in the world, I’m glad it was at Chef Ramsay’s,” he added.
